Te Moana-nui-a-Kiwa, the great ocean of Kiwa, is the vast Pacific Ocean that embraces our takiwā. It acts as a life-giver and a challenge for our wai Māori. It sustains the mauri and biodiversity of our coastal lagoon system while its tides, surges, and shifting sands reminds us of our role as Kaitiaki to protect the balance between wai, moana, whenua and taiao.
